What is Greenbucks?

Durning the summers 1992 - 2005 over 450 community volunteers each year, cleaned up our lands and waters and learned about stewardship of our ecosystem. They earned Greenbucks that they traded for local discounts and concert tickets.

Greenbucks volunteers learn, up-close and practical, how to recognize and remove invasive weeds and how to retrieve the all too abundant trash. They also learn basic information about the watershed itself... the water, the geology, vegetation, wildlife, history.  For these volunteers, the seemingly pristine environment is revealed instead as complex, vulnerable and in need of clear attention and responsible care. Greenbucks grows hands-on community stewards. We ask for a minimum of four hours of work, education or involvement. Many local merchants, who already give so much, have offered great discounts on food or services for your participation. Our summer events is also in place to thank and celebrate our volunteers who have earned their Buck.

Greenbucks (tm) was invented by the Telluride Institute in 1992.
