In addition to its ongoing programming, the Telluride Institute engages in projects and events with a limited time-line and an educational or sustainability focus.
Projects
Telluride Tibet Fund
In January 2009 the Telluride Institute embraced a new program, the Telluride Institute/Tibet Fund, which will take the Institute's mission to the roof of the world. The Fund was created with the goal of providing humanitarian aid to the people of Tibet. In accordance with TI's mission the Tibet Fund will support initiatives that help keep the ancient Tibetan culture alive, promote education and strengthen local economies.
State of the Planets Cryosphere
This bi-annual lecture by Dr. Jason Box, a research climatologist packed the house last year with insightful and educational information regarding the current state of the climate.
Partners
The Telluride Institute strives to utilize existing resources and projects to assist with the transition to a sustainable resource. We have done this over the years by strategic partnerships and valuable relationship with other organizations.
Reel Thing Productions
The Telluride Institute has partnered with Reel Thing Productions to help support, BagIt, an award winning documentary film focusing on the life cycle of plastics. A new project, the Uranium Drive-in, a documentary film on the uranium industry, is currently in production. Earlier projects include Head in the Clouds, Feet in the Desert, a documentary focusing on the San Miguel River watershed.
The Mountain Partnership
The Mountain Partnership is a mechanism for networking, communication and information-sharing and functions as a clearing house for members. It complements, supports and strengthens on-going initiatives in sustainable mountain development. The Mountain Partnership also functions as a broker for joint initiatives; facilitating contact between countries and institutions in view of joint activities and creating conditions for cooperation and resource mobilization at the national, regional and global level
Western Hardrock Watershed Team
WHWT is a coalition of community/watershed improvement groups,
confronting the challenges that remain from historic mining in the West.
We address environmental degradation and community impoverishment,
providing rural mining communities with the skills and capacity they
need to make their neighborhoods / watersheds better places to live and
work. Sophia Cinnamon, one of their OSM/VISTA volunteers, is working with us this year on our Watershed Education Programming. We are happy to have her and look forward to working with WHWT more in the future!
