In 2006 John Lifton and Pamela Zoline founded the "Centre for the Future" in the border town of Slavonice, Czech Republic.
September 2006 saw The Centre hold two simultaneous dual-language festivals: "Robot," a gathering of science fiction authors and artists from the US, UK and the Czech Republic, and a "Cultural Landscapes," a festival and colloquium examining how we humans shape the physical world through our actions.
The Centre for the Future is poised to become a leader in sustainability studies in the 21st century. Slavonice is a beautifully preserved renaissance town literally at the heart of Europe, where East meets West.
The Centre is gearing up to be a portal of information on the fast growing area of sustainability studies and will host conferences, visiting scholars, a library, and students from all over the world in our remodeled 19th century school building in the Slavonice town square.
