The annual Mountain Words Festival  in Crested Butte — a multi-day literary celebration at nine-thousand feet, featuring readings, workshops, kids’ events, parties, panel discussions, live theater, and more – will be held May 24-26, 2024. The Talking Gourds will be announcing the winner of the Chamberlain Award.

The following writers will be a part of the festival:

Timothy Egan

Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and the author of ten books, including A Fever in the Heartland: The Ku Klux Klan’s Plot to Take Over America and The Woman Who Stopped Them.

Beth Nguyen

Is the author of four books, most recently the memoir Owner of a Lonely Heart, which was a New York Times Editors’ Choice pick and was named a best book of 2023 by NPR, Time, Oprah Daily, and BookPage.

Betsy Gaines Quammen

Author of American Zion and True West, Gaines Quammen collects stories to make sense of a place defined by colonization, extraction, rebellion, myth, beauty, and land.
