Jacob Sheetz-Willard of Leadville wins 2023 Cantor Prize.

The Telluride Institute is happy to announce that Jacob Sheetz-Willard of Leadville has won the 2023 Cantor Prize for his poem, “Praying for Rain“.

The finalists were Donald Mace Williams of Texas for “Pikes Peak” and José “Tony” Alcántara of Carbondale for “Deep Ecology.” This is the fourth time Alcántara has been a finalist in the Talking Gourds contests — each time with a different judge.

Past Fischer winners include Wendy Videlock, Madison Gill, and Mark Oreskovich.
