Update on Talking Gourds programs for Fall 2023 & Winter 2024:
FISCHER CANTOR
We are close to announcing the winners of the Fischer and Cantor contests. We had 650 poems submitted to the two contests. Without administrative assistance, it’s been a solo struggle for Old Man Goodtimes to upgrade all the projects underway, especially as I just returned from a poetry tour of upstate New York.
Feedback in the Fischer/Cantor contests will take a little more time, if you signed up for that. But I will be working on feedback responses this fall.
BARDIC TRAILS
Our Bardic Trails zoom series continues at the Wilkinson Public Library in Telluride on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 pm.
STORIES & POEMS: NEW LIVE SERIES
We’ve started a new live series, Stories & Poems, at the Lone Cone Library in Norwood on the third Wednesday of every month.
CHAMBERLAIN AWARD
We awarded the 2023 Karen Chamberlain Lifetime Achievement Award to Marilyn Krysl of CU Denver in absentia at the Mountain Words Literary Festival in Crested Butte this past spring.
POET LAUREATES
We awarded the Western Slope Poet Laureate title (2023-24) to Wendy Videlock at a ceremony at the Art Center in Grand Junction this spring, as well as honoring the past laureate L. Luis Lopez. Wendy has taken off with the honor and begun numerous poetry initiatives throughout the Grand Valley.
